DESCRIPTION:Architecture Through the Viewfinder – three decades of professional architectural shooting. \nWith over three decades in commercial architectural photography\, Nottingham based Martine Hamilton Knight D Litt Hon\, FHEA\, FRPS speaks about her life in the industry. With a major publication about the business of architectural photography published by Routledge in January 2024\, her evening is a mixture of ‘how to’ for those interested in shooting architecture\, plus a chronological section on Martine’s time in the industry. Technological and economic factors affecting business and output throughout that period are discussed\, together with insight into her current research\, projects and the writing of Photography for Architects. \nShe also runs specialist workshops for the RPS\, Line and Light Photography School  (www.lineandlight.co.uk)\, and lectures on the BA/MA in Photography at Nottingham Trent University so there’s a rich heritage of teaching photographers over the last decade too.

Colour catches the eye\, time is inferred by the image colour (day\, year\, decade)\, the mood of a picture can be communicated by the colour scheme and the ability to emphasise relationships between subject matter is key. Most important of all\, colour can evoke an emotional response in the viewer. This presentation will track the history of colour photography\, examine why colour contrasts enhance compositions\, discuss colour harmonies and colour grading to produce beautiful images. \n
